Mogadishu: (Somali Observer) Reliable sources have told Somali Observer that a high-level delegation from the Somali government, including the Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources, has traveled to Washington, D.C. following an invitation from the U.S. Embassy in Somalia.

According to the sources, the purpose of the visit is to hold discussions with U.S. officials on several issues, including cooperation and the international marketing and development of Somalia’s natural resources.

The visit comes about a week after Somali government officials met in Mogadishu with a U.S. delegation that included the Acting U.S. Ambassador to Somalia. During that meeting, both sides discussed potential cooperation in developing and benefiting from Somalia’s rare earth minerals, which are considered strategically important for modern technology and energy industries.
